London Calling

Haven't updated in a while, life's a hectic lil' bitch. I'm sorry, I love you.

So, I'm leaving for London in a little less than 48 Hours. Madness. Gonna be there for three days, then Belgium, then Paris. Still have so much to do before I leave. I'm really looking forward to this trip. Broadening my horizons and all that. And I get to see my cousin for the first time in like 10 years.

I've been thinking a lot lately, about life, music, identities. A lot of "Who am I? Why am I here?" type of stuff. I blame it on too much Nick Cave.

Cheers for now, Karen

Red Blooded Years

I went to see aKING at the Fugard Theatre on Wednesday. The band sounded great, the new stuff is great, the album cover is great. All in all, it was a good night. I really enjoyed the intimacy of that little theatre. Here's a few (blurry) photos I took:

Bit o' photography

I've been really interested in photography these last few weeks, and have been trying to take pictures of anything in the house that looks interesting to me. I'm still in the learning stages, but here's what I have so far:

R-E-S-P-E-C-T

Being a pure-bred  rock & roll fan, I've never really had too much respect for popular music. I don't like it, I don't like what it stands for. But today, as I was doing shopping for the house that bloody irritating Beautiful Girls song by Sean Kingston started playing on the radio and something quite special happened. While walking through the aisles I walked past at least six total strangers (employees, customers) singing along to the chorus. I realized, right then, the power that a good pop song actually has over us. These people were brought together in some minor way by this song that was played over the radio.

I still don't have much love for the pop music industry, but this little moment in Pick 'n Pay made me look at pop in a very different way.

Superhero

If you don't know who Andrew Garfield is yet, he's the actor who's playing Peter Parker in Spiderman 4. Here's a still from the movie. I'm so glad they somebody who can actually act to play Spiderman. And I'm liking the redesign for the costume.

(My) Best of 2010

Happy belated Christmas and New Year!

I thought I'd start the year off with a bit of a thank you to 2010. She was a beaut, full of ups and down, lefts and rights, (inside outs?) I'll start with a count down of the albums that brought me the most joy last year. The new Kills album is coming out in April, so that'll probs be on 2011's list. Here's to an absolutely mad 2011.

1. The Black Keys - Brothers

2. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Beat the Devil's Tattoo

3. Band of Horses - Infinite Arms

4. The Dead Weather - Sea of Cowards

5. The Temper Trap - Conditions

Now that 2011 is actually here, I can almost Taste that trip to Belgium. 3 more months until lift-off!

Cheers, Karen
